Br_funcs.exe: Fix Ordinal Error not Found

Are you alarmed to see the br_funcs.exe process consuming 80% of your CPU? You shouldn’t worry, as this is perfectly normal.

The Br_funcs.exe file is a part of Lenovo’s Rescue and Recovery software that is used to backup the system. Rescue and Recovery can help you resurrect your missing files in case you experience a crash or any loss of data.

These backups are clearly an advantage worth having, but it is a huge disadvantage when the br_funcs.exe process shows high CPU consumption.  Sometimes, the process consumes up to 80% of the CPU when the backup process is running. Depending on the data to be backed up, this may last anywhere from 15 minutes to several hours.

Solution

Rescue and Recovery tool consumes high CPU only when the backup process is running.  By default, Rescue and Recovery performs backups three times a week.

You can workaround the problem by scheduling the tool to run automatically when you are not using the system.

You may encounter another problem with br_func.exe if you have Autodesk Architectural Desktop 3.3 installed on your Lenovo system. If this is the case, you may receive the following error message:

"br_funcs.exe - Ordinal Not Found
The ordinal 39 could not be located in the dynamic link library zlib.dll."

Cause of the error

This error occurs when the zlip.dll file on your computer is replaced with an older version (released before September 18^th, 2009) during the installation of AutoCAD.

Solution

The problem can be easily resolved by replacing the older version of the zlib.dll with its new version. You can copy the new version of the file from the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Lenovo\ folder and then copy it to the C:\WINDOWS\system32\ folder to solve the problem.

Error messages related to missing or corrupt program files may also occur if your PC is infected with a malware. . To prevent these infections, keep your system healthy by running regular virus and spyware scans using reliable antivirus and anti-spyware programs like Anti-Virus Plus and StopZilla.

It is also helpful to use a good registry cleaning program like RegGenie to keep your computer error free by maintaining a healthy, error-free and optimized Windows registry.

Since you should not do away with system backups, you may have to live with Br_funcs.exe consuming 80% of your CPU. However, it isn’t necessary for you to experience Windows slow down when it is running. Schedule the backups during the hours you know you won’t be using the computer.
