What is Dlg.exe?
Dlg.exe or the Digital Line Detection process belongs to the BVRP Software TestLine software suite, which is used to provide fax, e-mail, phone book and other related services on a computer. Dlg.exe is also known to be included in America Online’s Digital and CINEMA 4D Module Advanced software and Connexant V.92 and Broadcom modem drivers.
The file is not a Windows critical file and usually comes pre-installed on Dell and various other brands of computers. The file is usually located in the C:\Program Files\Digital Line Detect folder. By default, the process is loaded at system startup. You can find entries related to dlg.exe at the following locations within the Windows registry:

The most common sizes of the file is 24,576 bytes. You may also find the file in the following sizes 45,056, 50,688, 20,480, 49,152, 40,960, 32,768, 202,494 bytes sizes.
What are the problems associated with Dlg.exe?
Some new versions of the dlg.exe file are known to cause problems, such as high memory usage and deterioration in system performance that may make your system unstable. If this happens, you should disable the program from loading at system startup, and if you are not using the related software, there is no reason to have the dlg process running in the background unnecessarily.
So, the first thing that you can do is to disable the dlg.exe autostart option in any programs, such as BVRP Software TestLine software and modem drivers, that use the file.
To disable the dlg.exe process at startup…
- Open Start menu
- Select Run
- Type msconfig and then press Enter to open the System Configuration Utility.
- Here, on the Processes tab, locate and disable the Digital Line Detection process.
If you just want to temporarily stop the dlg.exe process…
- Open Task Manager
- on the Processes tab, locate the dlg.exe process
- Right-click on the file and then select End Process.
In case you just want to get rid of the process, then use the Windows Search feature to locate the file on your computer and then delete it. However, you must know that this task can be dangerous because deleting the file may prevent related programs from functioning normally.
